Case study
A 47 year female sought a blood test after suffering shortness of breath after exercising. She complained of recurrent febrile episodes and occasional night sweats with weakness and fatigue.
The patient was pale and her spleen could be palpated. The Full Blood Count returns the following results:
Immunophenotyping showed the blast cells were positive for CD13, CD33 and CD42 but were negative for CD3, CD5, CD7 and CD20. On the basis of these results, provide an initial diagnosis and describe appropriate treatment.
