Section 1 – The Covid Paradox

As of July 2020, we find that all the current indicators and future predictions for the economy are down but at the same time, financial markets are up – critically analyze this seemingly paradoxical scenario. Your analysis should include a critical evaluation of the US and UK economies plus the bond and equity markets in the two countries.

Section 2 – Government and Central Bank Actions in the UK and the US

Include a discussion and critical evaluation of the actions taken by the governments and the central banks in the two countries in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Your discussion of the central banks’ actions should include amongst other things a critical evaluation of their actions taken with respect to the interest rate and quantitative easing.

Section 3 – Price of Gold during Covid

You should also incorporate the price of gold in your discussion as this has been traditionally thought of as a hedge against inflation and currency depreciation. What happened to the Gold price and Why it happened? What do you expect for the Gold price going forward and Why?

Section 4 – Covid and the USD/GBP Exchange Rate

Based on your analysis discuss the implication of all this on the USD/GBP exchange rate. What happened to the USD/GBP exchange rate and Why it happened? What do you expect for the USD/GBP exchange rate going forward and Why?

Section 5 – Recommendations for Investors and Policymakers

This is the conclusion section of your report. Based on your findings make recommendations to Investors (both individual and institutional) about the way forward and how they can benefit from your report. Similarly, make recommendations to policymakers about how they can benefit from your report. Don’t hesitate to criticize their actions and make suggestions on what they could do better going forward. Please ensure your recommendations are based on facts and supported by logical reasoning i.e. do not make unsubstantiated claims.
