Common components and consumables

You are required to produce a document that will be used by the Maintenance Department to consider alternatives in respect of their replacement part strategy for the company, and to provide detail related to the components examined.
1. Your supervisor has asked you to look at the transmission-related components of two mechanical systems: The first one containing vee belts and drive pulley system with drive shaft and output gearbox used for a product test rig machine, the other system is a centre lathe end feed drive gear train. (Images taken from manuals has been provided to aid with
machine identification)

2. For the above system you have been asked to explain how each of the systems characteristics how they operate and any of the related maintenance considerations of the systems (particular focus should be paid to the gear train) with detail provided related to other transmission components.

3. The following consumable components: The seal on the gearbox shafts on centre lathe, the bearings on test rigs shaft, the fixings retaining the drive shaft / bearing on the test rig

4. For each of the component/consumable that you have been asked to look at, describe them in your report: evaluate the characteristics of each component, its application (why and how it is used), how it contributes to the overall operation of the system, and how it is to be maintained and ultimately replaced. You also need to suggest and justify two alternatives for each component.
