SCENARIO

You are working as a junior consultant for a construction management firm. The firm has been approached to provide an in-depth report for a client who is new to the UK construction sector. The client is interested in understanding how the industry has developed, the roles and relationships of the professionals involved in delivering projects, and the wider impact of construction activities.

You are required to prepare a professional report that will inform the client about the structure of the industry, the responsibilities of professionals, and the impact that construction projects can have on social, economic, and environmental factors. To meet this, you should aim to answer the tasks below

Task 1 – The Development of the Construction Industry (LO1: P1, P2, M1)

• Discuss the development of the construction industry using historic and contemporary
examples.
• Explain the roles and responsibilities of those that work in the construction industry.
• Analyse the purpose of professional bodies in supporting the industry and protecting the public.

Task 2 – The Impact of the Construction Industry (LO2: P3, P4, M2, D1)

• Explain the different types of sustainability and how the construction industry is reflected in
these.
• Define potential strategies to promote equality, diversity and inclusion and ensure fairness at
work.
• Illustrate the challenges of the construction industry in regard to diversity and inclusion.
• Evaluate the ways in which professionalism, diversity and inclusion are important to the growth of the construction sector.
