Unit Aims
The unit gives learners knowledge of the drivers for service user involvement and enables them to plan for more effective involvement in housing.
Assessment Task
You have been asked to produce a report for your management committee setting out the benefits of service user involvement. To achieve a pass, address all five questions in full:
Question 1 (AC 1.2)
Explain the benefits of service user involvement in housing.
Question 2 (AC 1.1)
Summarise the requirement for housing providers to involve service users in the management of their homes. Summarise the legal requirements (the legislation and Housing Acts that specify what landlords must do), specify the regulatory requirements for landlords, and identify and summarise the relevant regulatory standard for service user involvement.
Question 3 (AC 2.1)
Compare and contrast the ways service users can be involved in housing, considering the different types of involvement and the level of commitment needed from service users.
Question 4 (AC 2.2)
Compare and contrast the impact of the examples given in Question 3.
Question 5 (AC 3.1, 3.2)
Examine the current level of service user involvement within your own organisation:
- Identify three outcomes or changes to a service (for example, the repairs service) that your organisation has made as a result of involving service users.
- Make a plan to improve service user involvement in your organisation in the future, referring to best practice in other organisations where useful.
