This TMA assesses your ability to:

  • evaluate programming methods for programmable logic controllers (PLCs);
  • evaluate advanced PLC functions;
  • produce clear program text and documentation;
  • employ testing and debugging techniques;
  • identify the elements involved in preparing a program;
  • produce and demonstrate a PLC program of at least 50 instructions for an engineering application.

Grading Criteria

Pass Complete Exercises 1–2
Merit Complete Exercises 1–5
Distinction Complete Exercises 1–7

For every exercise you must submit the ladder logic file together with an I/O allocation list, a rung-by-rung description and a summary of how the program was developed and tested.

Exercise 7: Industrial Control Simulator

Program component sorting and assembly on the industrial control simulator.
