You have been asked to write an information guide for new staff which will give them an overview of housing management and advice services.  Your guide will refer to different housing organizations in your area and should include all the following:

Introduction

A brief overview (maximum 100 words) of two different types of housing organizations operating in your area, for example, the local authority and a housing association (name, type, size, area of operation). 

Provision of housing
An explanation of how social housing is allocated to new tenants, including how applications are prioritized. You should identify and explain at least one method of housing allocation used by a housing association or local authority. 

An explanation of the key features of shared ownership or other similar low-cost ownership initiatives, including how an individual can access this type of housing. You should outline an example of this ownership initiative offered by a specific housing organization such as a housing association a local authority, your organization, or one you know of to illustrate.                         

A summary of the legal responsibilities of local authorities in the country where you work (NIHE in Northern Ireland) and housing associations about the allocation of housing. You should also summarise their legal responsibilities relating to the provision of temporary and permanent accommodation for different categories of homeless applicants, including the relevant legislation.
