Entrepreneurship is essential in enhancing productivity and growth in the economy and in an era of exponential technological change, there are an infinite number of opportunities for entrepreneurs to exploit. Skills to become a successful entrepreneur go far beyond technical know-how and innovation, it is the combination of creativity, and business know-how, together with a number of interpersonal skills that differentiates them from a manager or innovator.
1.3 Coursework Tasks to be completed by Students
The purpose of this coursework is to undertake a personal research project that explores the “lifeworld” of an entrepreneur, discussing and evaluating the skills, pressures and complexities associated with entrepreneurism in the 21st Century. As part of this process, you will:
- Investigate the relevancy of entrepreneurism in a technological era
- Critically evaluate the functional and managerial competencies and characteristics of an entrepreneur in a new small technology-based enterprise.
- Critically appraise the operation of a small enterprise in marketing, finance, supply and human resource terms
- Investigate the challenges associated with being a successful technology-based enterprise (through primary and/or secondary data)
- Identify the resources available to support a technology-based business start-up.
1.3 Expected Size of Individual Coursework
- The work should be formatted using ‘Arial’ font, of font size ‘11’, with 1.5 line spacing.
- The work shall be a maximum of 3,000 words which excludes the abstract, references/bibliography and appendices section.
- Figures (diagrams, illustrations, photographs etc.) and tables are welcome to support the text but must be fully incorporated into the submission, integrated and following the text that fully explains why they are exhibited.
